📖 Overview

The Temple of Ahn'Qiraj is the hardest raid before Naxxramas and one of the most mechanically complex experiences in vanilla WoW. It houses C'Thun — an ancient Old God — and requires a raid that is well-geared, experienced, and willing to learn significantly more demanding mechanics than MC or BWL. The Twin Emperors and C'Thun will take weeks to defeat for most guilds.

AQ40 requires nature and shadow resistance gear alongside standard raiding gear. The raid introduces entirely new mechanics including the Twin Emperors immunity-swap system and C'Thun's rotating Eye Beam that kills anyone caught in it.

💀 Boss Roster

01
Twin Emperors — Vek'lor & Vek'nilash
EliteFinal BossHumanoid
The most mechanically complex vanilla fight before C'Thun. Vek'nilash is immune to magic, Vek'lor immune to physical. They must be swapped between tanks when they teleport near each other.
Immunity swap: Physical tank on Vek'nilash, magic on Vek'lor. When emperors teleport, tanks swap immediately. They heal each other if they get too close.
02
C'Thun (Phase 1)
EliteElemental
The Eye. His Eye Beam rotates across the room killing anyone in its path. Raiders must constantly move counter-clockwise to stay ahead of the beam. Kill Giant Eye Tentacles to weaken his defences.
Eye Beam: Rotating beam kills instantly. Move counter-clockwise constantly. Giant Eye Tentacles: Kill to lower his defences.
03
C'Thun (Phase 2)
EliteFinal BossElemental
True form. He pulls raiders into his stomach — they must destroy Flesh Tentacles inside to escape. The Eye Beam continues. Exterior Tentacles must be killed to reduce damage.
Stomach: Destroy Flesh Tentacles to escape. Eye Beam continues in Phase 2. Exterior Tentacles: Kill to reduce raid damage.

💡 Key Mechanics & Tips

⚠️

C'Thun Eye Beam: The beam rotates clockwise. Raiders run counter-clockwise to stay ahead of it. Standing still or running with the beam is instant death. Practice the movement on trash before the boss pull — this mechanic ends more progression attempts than anything else in AQ40.

⚠️

Twin Emperors swap: Any delay in the tank swap when the Emperors teleport results in the wrong tank taking the wrong immune Emperor. The heal mechanic then fires and the fight becomes unwinnable. Two experienced tanks with perfect communication are mandatory.

💡

Viscidus: This boss can only be damaged by frost. Bring heavy Mage representation and coordinate frost-only damage phases. Most guilds stack Mages specifically for this encounter.
