🌳Overview

Hateforge Quarry is a custom 5-man dungeon set inside a Dark Iron dwarf mining operation in the northeastern Burning Steppes. The Dark Iron clan has been excavating here for months, extracting rare ores and forging experimental weapons. The Hateforge operation answers to Ragnaros indirectly — not through the Firelord’s direct command, but through the ambitions of the Dark Iron overseers who believe the quarry’s resources will elevate their standing in Blackrock Mountain’s hierarchy.

The dungeon fills a real gap in the leveling curve. After Sunken Temple and before BRD, players in the 48–56 range have limited quality options. Hateforge drops into that window cleanly. The aesthetic is industrial — rough-hewn stone corridors, forge-fire light, mine cart tracks, mechanical golem patrols, and the constant sound of drilling. Community verdict: functional and worth running, but it won’t be your favourite dungeon on the server.

💡

Best window: 49–53. At 48 the dungeon is punishing but manageable. By 54 you’ll outgear it. The ten custom quests give solid XP for the bracket and the Dark Iron questline chains are satisfying to complete.

💀Bosses

Hateforge Quarry has five bosses spread across the three levels of the mine. The dungeon is fairly linear — there’s limited branching, making it easier to navigate than BRD or Sunken Temple. The final boss, Overseer Grimbrand, controls the entire operation from the deepest excavation chamber.

01
Drill-Sergeant Krognak
EliteHumanoid
The mine’s entrance overseer. Hits hard for his position in the dungeon. A reasonable gear check before committing to the full clear. He has a charge ability — keep ranged spread to avoid him bouncing back to the healer.
Iron Charge: Charges random party member. Spread ranged 15 yards apart.
02
Forgemaster Durrek
EliteCustomHumanoid
The primary smith of the operation. His forge fires the experimental weapons that are the reason for the quarry’s existence. He summons two Iron Golem adds at 50% health — if these are not killed quickly they will overwhelm the healer. Quest boss for Tools of the Hateforge.
Summon Iron Golem: Two golems at 50%. Kill before resuming boss. Forge Fire: Places a fire patch on the ground. Move out.
03
Stone Guardian MK-IV
EliteMechanical
An experimental mechanical golem patrolling the mid-level of the mine. The dungeon’s most mechanically interesting fight. His Stomp ability hits everyone within 10 yards — the whole party must stack behind him for the fight, as only the tank should be in front. Move out before Stomp lands.
Iron Stomp: Frontal AoE, very high damage. Tank faces away, party stacks behind. Gear Grind: Single target bleed on tank. Healer priority target.
04
Excavator Thane Boldveins
EliteCustomHumanoid
The veteran excavator who discovered the richest ore vein in the quarry. He fights surrounded by loose boulders that can be used against him — but also roll down on party members who stand in the wrong position. Drops key quest items for three of the custom questlines.
Boulder Roll: Rolls boulders down the tunnel. Move to the sides. Deep Strike: Channelled self-buff, interrupt it.
05
Overseer Grimbrand
EliteFinal BossCustomHumanoid
The operation’s commander. A heavily armoured Dark Iron overseer with two bodyguards that must be killed before the main fight or they will chain-stun your tank. Grimbrand himself enrages at 25% health with a significant damage increase. Hold DPS cooldowns for the enrage window.
Bodyguards: Two adds at pull. Kill both before engaging Grimbrand. Enrage: 25% health — pop DPS cooldowns and burn. Molten Slam: Frontal AoE, deals fire damage. Tank faces away from group.

⚔️Recommended Classes & Roles

Crescent Grove is a nature-themed dungeon with heavy nature damage from the final two bosses. Having a Shaman or Druid in the group provides nature resistance totems and excellent throughput healing through the tougher nature-damage-heavy pulls. The dungeon rewards controlled, deliberate play — large pulls near the corrupted moonwell area can wipe groups quickly if AoE threat is not well managed.

Warrior
Hunter
Warlock

Composition Tips

A Warrior tank is the most reliable choice — the enrage on Thornweald hits hard and a Warrior’s Shield Wall provides good insurance. Druid or Shaman healer is strongly recommended for the natural synergy with nature resistance and HoT healing through the pool AoE on the Moonwell Desecrator fight. At least one interrupt is essential for Elder Mosswhisper — Counterspell, Earth Shock, Kick — ideally two so the cast never lands.

📦Loot Highlights

Crescent Grove loot is tuned for the 34–39 bracket and fills the same gap as the dungeon itself. The nature resistance gear from the later bosses is genuinely useful for players heading into Maraudon and Sunken Temple later. The custom quest rewards are the main draw — they’re itemised specifically for the bracket in ways that zone quest gear rarely matches.

ItemSourceTypeNotable For
Grovewhisper Mantle
Rare
Elder Mosswhisper Cloth Shoulders Spell power + nature resistance. Strong for Druid / Shaman healers
Thornweald’s Bark Shield
Rare
Thornweald the Ancient Shield High armour value, stamina. Best in slot shield for Warriors in the bracket
Corrupted Moonring

Moonwell Desecrator Ring Nature resistance + intellect. Useful through Maraudon and ST
Briarwood Wand
Uncommon
Sister Briarwood Wand Solid caster wand for the 34–40 range
Grove Keeper’s Staff
Rare
Quest: The Elder’s Fall Staff Best quest reward. Feral Druid or Shaman weapon. Competitive until ZF

💡Tips & Warnings

Before You Enter

Pick up all six custom quests before zoning in — specifically make sure you have The Rampant Groveweald and Moonwell Corruption as these require items found throughout the dungeon. The Moonwell Corruption quest has three collection points spread across the dungeon and cannot be completed if you skip past them. Check your map with the Speedz1337 addon installed.

💡

Nature resistance: If you have any nature resistance gear sitting in your bags, equip it before the Moonwell Desecrator and Elder Mosswhisper fights. Even 30–50 nature resistance noticeably reduces incoming damage on these encounters.

The Moonwell Area

The section leading up to the Moonwell Desecrator boss contains the densest trash in the dungeon. The corrupted moonwell pools deal nature damage to anyone standing in them — this applies to trash fights too, not just the boss. Mark a skull on the priority target before each pull. Pulling too many packs here while people are standing in pools is the most common wipe point for first-time groups.

⚠️

Elder Mosswhisper interrupt: If Wrath of the Grove lands uninterrupted it will likely kill one or two party members. Assign interrupt order before the pull — typically Mage Counterspell first, then a second class as backup. Do not let this cast go through.

Enrage on Thornweald

Thornweald the Ancient enrages at 20% health with a significant damage increase. If your tank isn’t well geared for the bracket this can be a wall. Hold DPS cooldowns for the enrage phase — Warrior Recklessness, Hunter Rapid Fire, trinkets. The faster you push through the enrage the less punishment your healer takes.

🐢

Turtle WoW tip: Crescent Grove is one of the best places to use your Traveler’s Tent rested XP boost. Log out inside the dungeon or in the Ashenvale camp nearby to bank rested XP before your next run. The quest XP combined with rested XP makes this one of the most efficient 34–39 farming spots on the server.
