The route at a glance
The Hinterlands has strong faction hubs and an elite-heavy finale. Alliance works from Aerie Peak, Horde from Revantusk Village; both should bundle troll objectives before the long climb into Jintha'Alor.
The Hinterlands quest route
40-43: faction hub
Take the flight path and clear wolves, gryphons, slimes and lower troll objectives near your side of the zone.
43-46: central caves and ruins
Combine Wildhammer, Witherbark, ooze and Skulk Rock objectives. Caves are safer when multiple quests share the trip.
46-48: coast and higher trolls
Horde enjoys especially dense Revantusk follow-ups; Alliance should keep Tanaris or Feralas available.
48-50: Jintha'Alor
Form a group and stack every elite quest before ascending. The altar and egg-related objectives should be one organised run.
Key quest chains worth grouping together
Jintha'Alor ascent
The elite city is a multi-quest outdoor dungeon. Clear methodically and keep the group together.
Ancient Egg
This important objective ties into later Sunken Temple content and is best completed during Jintha'Alor.
Ooze and troll collections
The centre offers efficient overlapping kill-and-collect loops when every hub quest is gathered first.
Travel, hearthstone and handoffs
Core hubs: Aerie Peak · Revantusk Village · Skulk Rock · Jintha'Alor.
Take every flight path on first arrival. Bind near the hub serving most current objectives, then change the hearthstone when the quest centre moves. Sell, repair and train during planned handoffs rather than interrupting every circuit.
Common The Hinterlands mistakes
- Climbing Jintha'Alor with only one elite quest.
- Missing Revantusk Village's coastal position and flight path as Horde.
- Relying on this zone alone as Alliance when quest density drops.
Where to go after The Hinterlands
Your best alternative is Tanaris, Feralas or Searing Gorge. Changing zone is not abandoning a route; Classic deliberately spreads useful quests across overlapping level bands.
The Hinterlands leveling FAQ
What level should I start The Hinterlands?
The practical range is 40-50. Enter near the lower end only when the opening quests are yellow or green; Hardcore characters should generally arrive later.
Should I finish every quest?
No. Skip isolated, low-drop-rate or elite quests when forming a group or travelling would cost more time than moving to Tanaris, Feralas or Searing Gorge.
Is this route for Classic Era?
Yes. It is written for official WoW Classic Era and avoids later-expansion quest hubs and Turtle WoW custom content.
