The fourth major content patch for Mysteries of Azeroth is the biggest PvP update the server has ever seen alongside three new pieces of content, a new race/class combo and sweeping class balance changes. This is a landmark patch.
- Moonwhisper Coast (levels 50-56) — Kaldorei territory in northern Kalimdor, haunted Highborne ruins, blue forest atmosphere. Moonhoof Tauren hold watch.
- Access via Timbermaw Hold Gate in Azshara — also the path to the new raid
- New faction: Draenei Exiles (neutral) — two tribes arrived via riftwalkers
- New faction: Earthen Ring (Horde) — shamans in Stonetalon Mountains
- Windhorn Canyon (26-30) — Thousand Needles. Grimtotem drove out the Windhorn Tauren and claimed their ancient canyon
- Frostmane Hollow (13-20) — Dun Morogh. New early dungeon for dwarf/gnome territory
- Timbermaw Hold (20-man) — beneath Mount Hyjal. Described as harder than existing 20-man raids
- Access via Timbermaw Hold Gate in Azshara, also connecting to Moonwhisper Coast
- Tauren Priest — guided by the Earthmother's celestial siblings. Full lore justification through the Earthen Ring questline
- Adds to Turtle WoW's growing list of custom race/class combinations
- Honor is now instant currency — no more weekly flush. 20,000 cap per week
- Conquest Points — new premium PvP currency from Ranked Arena, World Events, Call to Arms BGs
- Thorn Gorge — new 15v15 battleground, Eye of the Storm-style (flags + bases)
- Ranked Arena Teams launching — Solo Shuffle planned
- World PvP Events — Southshore vs Tarren Mill, Redwall Keep flag capture
- Sunnyglade Valley disabled for full rework
- PvP Dampening now dynamic per class/spec (not flat)
- Molten Core — all bosses updated with new/adjusted mechanics. Two new areas: Incindis' Lair + Old Shadowforge
- Onyxia's Lair — updated and improved
- Blackwing Lair — fresh touches and improvements
- Survival profession reworked
- New items and mounts
- Azshara updated to show Timbermaw Hold Gate + furbolg cliffs
- New Elwynn Forest early-level quests added around Tower of Azora
- Durotar early Boar quest bloat removed
Three entirely new zones launched simultaneously — the largest single-patch zone addition in Turtle WoW history. Alongside two new custom dungeons and a complete Molten Core overhaul with new areas, this patch marked the second year of the Mysteries of Azeroth expansion.
- Balor — haunted island west of Elwynn/Westfall. Shadow Council + Stormreaver Clan. Stormwrought Ruins dungeon
- Northwind — hidden vale north of Stormwind. Human nobility under threat. Fills the Stormwind-Ironforge map gap
- Grim Reaches — eastern cliffs of EK. Wildhammer vs Dragonmaw conflict. Dragonmaw Retreat dungeon
- Stormwrought Ruins (35-41) — Balor. Stormreaver Clan and Shadow Council in the ruins of Duke Balor's castle
- Dragonmaw Retreat (52-58) — Wetlands. Ancient dwarven caverns repurposed by the Dragonmaw. Zuluhed the Whacked as final boss
- All bosses updated with new/adjusted mechanics
- Incindis' Lair — new area, hatching grounds of the incendosaur
- Old Shadowforge — new area, the first Dark Iron hearth inside Blackrock Mountain
- View all 32 buffs + 16 debuffs without addons
- Macro character limit: 255 → 510
- Donation store: search, 3D dress-up frame, color cycling
- Ravasaur Training — Horde raptor mount quest added
- Wintersaber Training reputation: 2x faster
- TURTLE_WOW_VERSION global variable for addon authors
- New flight paths for all three zones (both factions)
A sustained balance and polish patch rather than a content patch — 1.17.2 brought sweeping class changes, map updates for all the custom zones added in 1.17.0 and 1.17.1, and the ongoing class tuning thread that became one of the most-replied forum posts in server history (1,900+ replies).
- Shaman racial class quests (Feral Spirit, Totemic Slam, Hex) confirmed at level 40
- Paladin Crusader Strike and Holy Strike restored/added
- Warrior Rage formula rework — 90% gear-based
- Hunter in-combat traps at level 40 added
- Mage hit cap reduced to 8% (from 9%)
- Priest: Fear Ward baseline all races

The community reaction to 1.17.1 was overwhelmingly positive — the new race starting zones set a new bar for custom content quality. The Goblin rework addressed years of complaints about the race being the weakest visually and narratively.
- New 1-10 starting zone for High Elves — replaces Farstrider Lodge start
- Located at remote fringes of Quel'thalas, around the city of Alah'Thalas
- Comprehensive original questline with city dock, political intrigue, arcane addiction lore
- All High Elves below level 10 automatically moved on patch release
- New 1-10 starting zone for Goblins
- Durotar Labor Union seized a resource-rich island but exploits its own workers
- Goblin player models fully reworked — new faces, hair, beard customization
- New animations, visual parity with other playable races
The patch that made the community sit up and take notice. Opening the Greymane Wall — a locked zone that had existed in the game files since vanilla WoW — was one of the most exciting moments in Turtle WoW's history. Gilneas delivered on every expectation. Mount Hyjal, long teased and partially implemented by Blizzard, finally became accessible.
- Full zone added — levels 39-46, Alliance-focused
- Ravenwood Rebellion vs Greymane loyalists — manipulated by the black dragonflight
- Gilneas City dungeon (43-50) — widely considered the best custom dungeon
- Scythe of Elune legendary questline begins here
- Flight paths from Southshore and Tarren Mill
- Full zone added — levels 58-60, endgame content
- World Tree Nordrassil accessible — site of the War of the Ancients
- Shadeflayer Tribe Dark Trolls — first appearance outside Warcraft III
- Emerald Sanctum (40-man raid) added
- Black Lotus spawns here
The patches that launched the Mysteries of Azeroth expansion and established Turtle WoW as the definitive Classic+ private server. Over 300 quests added across all zones in 1.16.0 alone. The three South Seas islands filled the level 48-60 questing gap that Classic WoW always had.
- Lapidis Isle (48-53) — WoW Alpha island finally implemented. Pirates, Kul Tiras, elite zone
- Gilijim's Isle (48-53) — Mosh'ogg ogres vs Zul'Razar trolls
- Tel'Abim (54-60) — the banana island. Black Lotus spawns. Ape rebellion
- Tirisfal Uplands (14-20) — Forsaken zone expansion
- Karazhan Crypt (level 60) — the haunted basement of Karazhan

- Goblins (Horde) — Exit Strategy, Prospecting, Blade & Bludgeon, Rocket Car mount

- Challenge Glyphs — Hardcore, Boaring Adventure, Slow & Steady, Vagrant's Endeavor, Artisan's Quest, War Mode, Exhaustion
- Transmog system added
- Cross-faction grouping enabled by default
- XP Toggle — stop XP gain at any level
