The route at a glance
Hillsbrad is one of Classic's most faction-asymmetric contested zones. Horde has the dense Tarren Mill campaign; Alliance uses Southshore as a travel and quest hub but often mixes in Wetlands or Duskwood.
Hillsbrad Foothills quest route
20-23: faction perimeter
Collect every local hub quest and clear wildlife or farm objectives that remain close to the roads.
23-26: farms and mines
Horde advances Battle of Hillsbrad; Alliance mixes murloc, naga and Syndicate work with other zones.
26-28: Durnholde and Syndicate
Group tightly packed humanoid objectives and watch for patrols inside compounds.
28-30: Alterac handoff
Finish higher-level yeti or Syndicate stages, collect northern flight connections and move toward Arathi or Stranglethorn.
Key quest chains worth grouping together
Battle of Hillsbrad
The Horde signature chain rises through farms, mine and town targets; later stages should not be forced early.
Helcular's Revenge
A memorable Horde chain whose final step is dangerous in Alliance territory.
Syndicate operations
Both the Hillsbrad and Alterac areas feed longer criminal-faction stories.
Travel, hearthstone and handoffs
Core hubs: Tarren Mill · Southshore · Durnholde Keep · Dalaran outskirts.
Take every flight path on first arrival. Bind near the hub serving most current objectives, then change the hearthstone when the quest centre moves. Sell, repair and train during planned handoffs rather than interrupting every circuit.
Common Hillsbrad Foothills mistakes
- Treating Alliance and Horde quest density as equivalent.
- Questing directly outside the enemy town on a busy PvP realm.
- Pushing later Battle of Hillsbrad stages while targets are orange or red.
Where to go after Hillsbrad Foothills
Your best alternative is Arathi Highlands or Thousand Needles. Changing zone is not abandoning a route; Classic deliberately spreads useful quests across overlapping level bands.
Hillsbrad Foothills leveling FAQ
What level should I start Hillsbrad Foothills?
The practical range is 20-30. Enter near the lower end only when the opening quests are yellow or green; Hardcore characters should generally arrive later.
Should I finish every quest?
No. Skip isolated, low-drop-rate or elite quests when forming a group or travelling would cost more time than moving to Arathi Highlands or Thousand Needles.
Is this route for Classic Era?
Yes. It is written for official WoW Classic Era and avoids later-expansion quest hubs and Turtle WoW custom content.
