The short recommendation

Train First Aid on every non-Tailor and usually on Tailors too. Bandages provide fast recovery and an emergency heal that costs no mana, but damage interrupts the channel and applies Recently Bandaged. Save cloth tiers before moving past the skill range that uses them.

What First Aid actually feels like

First Aid is the simplest survival profession: cloth becomes bandages, and bandages turn a safe eight-second window into health. It is particularly strong for Warriors, Rogues and Hunters, but healers also use it when silence, mana or triage makes casting undesirable. Tailors must budget the shared cloth supply.

Price warning: orange, yellow and green recipe economics change by realm. This guide gives stable material bands and decision points rather than pretending one exact shopping list is cheapest everywhere.

150–225 ExpertSilk and MageweaveBuy Expert book; Silk through Mageweave
225–300 ArtisanMageweave and RuneclothTriage quest; Runecloth and Heavy Runecloth

Stay on an inexpensive recipe or reliable node while it remains productive. Move when skill-ups become too slow or the next material tier is genuinely cheaper—not merely because a guide’s number says so.

Training gates and special decisions

  1. Journeyman is trained normally before 75.
  2. Expert First Aid – Under Wraps is a book sold in Stromgarde for Alliance and Brackenwall Village for Horde.
  3. At 225 skill and character level 35, complete the faction Triage quest in Theramore or Hammerfall to learn Artisan.
  4. During Triage, use the supplied bandages on critically injured patients first and do not waste casts on deaths.

Materials worth checking before you sell

“Keep” means check its use and current value. It does not mean fill a bank forever; sell materials when funding mounts, spells or bags creates more value for your character.

What 300 skill is for

Solo recovery

Bandage after control, a stun, Fear, trap or line-of-sight break.

Group triage

Use a bandage when the healer is occupied or conserving mana, without standing in damage.

Cloth economy

At 300, Heavy Runecloth Bandages create a consistent use for Runecloth.

Best classes and pairings

Warrior and Rogue gain the largest levelling quality-of-life improvement, Hunters can bandage behind pet control, and mana users preserve mana. Tailors should still train it but manage cloth priorities.

Common First Aid mistakes

  • Trying to bandage while periodic damage is ticking.
  • Forgetting Recently Bandaged prevents another immediate bandage.
  • Selling all cloth before reaching the next training gate.
  • Failing Triage by healing patients in the wrong priority.
  • Assuming healing classes gain nothing from a mana-free emergency tool.
