The short recommendation

Choose Engineering for combat utility, PvP tools and unusual solutions—not for simple auction-house profit. Pair it with Mining. Keep the components you craft because many “skill-up” parts become ingredients later; throwing them away forces you to craft them twice.

What Engineering actually feels like

Engineering converts ore, stone, cloth and vendor parts into explosives, target dummies, goggles, reflectors, trinkets and teleporters. Many of its best items require Engineering to use, which limits customers but gives the owner unique power. It is preparation-heavy and continually consumes materials after reaching 300.

Price warning: orange, yellow and green recipe economics change by realm. This guide gives stable material bands and decision points rather than pretending one exact shopping list is cheapest everywhere.

Stay on an inexpensive recipe or reliable node while it remains productive. Move when skill-ups become too slow or the next material tier is genuinely cheaper—not merely because a guide’s number says so.

Training gates and special decisions

  1. Train ranks before capping and retain crafted tubes, casings, blasting powder and triggers.
  2. At 200 skill and level 30, choose Gnomish or Goblin Engineering through its quest chain.
  3. Gnomish emphasises devices and control; Goblin emphasises explosives. Both have valuable Classic tools.
  4. Changing specialisation generally means unlearning and rebuilding the profession; choose deliberately.

What 300 skill is for

PvP and control

Grenades, reflectors, nets and specialist devices cover gaps in many class kits.

Raid utility

Goblin Sapper Charges, repair bots, target dummies and specialised resistance tools have encounter uses.

Convenience

Teleporters, scopes, ammunition and gadgets reward an active owner more than a passive seller.

Best classes and pairings

Excellent on every class. Warriors gain ranged control, Rogues add more disruption, Hunters use scopes and Feign Death tricks, and casters gain interrupts or escape tools their spellbook lacks.
