Scarlet Monastery: Graveyard

Recommended levels, location and preparation for an ordinary Scarlet Monastery: Graveyard group—not a boosted carry.

The short recommendation

Graveyard is the shortest and lowest-level Scarlet Monastery wing. The main route ends at Bloodmage Thalnos, while rare bosses can appear in side crypts and graveyard areas. Horde players can start Vorrel's Revenge inside; the large faction capstone quests mostly target the later wings, not this one.

Choose the run before inviting

Standard clear

Enter the left-hand Graveyard portal, cross the graveyard and crypts, then kill Bloodmage Thalnos.

Rare check

Inspect side areas for Fallen Champion, Ironspine and Azshir the Sleepless; they are not guaranteed.

Vorrel's Revenge

Speak to Vorrel near the beginning, then complete the outdoor follow-up at Lordamere Lake after the run.

Multi-wing group

If continuing to Library, say so before forming; the recommended level and time commitment changes.

Group-finder wording: use the exact route, required key or shortcut, and final boss. Clear expectations prevent more failed Classic groups than an extra level of gear.

Before travelling

  1. Horde players should speak to Vorrel Sengutz inside before passing him.
  2. Alliance travel is long at this level; set the meeting point clearly.
  3. Empty enough bag room for cloth, green items and rare-boss drops.
  4. Do not promise rare-boss loot—the spawns are not guaranteed.
Version warning: this guide is for official Classic Era. Seasonal, Turtle WoW and later-expansion layouts or quest changes are intentionally excluded.

Quest pickup checklist

Classic dungeon quests often begin several zones or chain steps away. Check these before the group travels; the note tells you when a prerequisite matters.

Boss and event warnings

EncounterWhat the group must know
Bloodmage ThalnosInterrupt Shadow Bolt where possible and prepare for summoned undead after he dies.
Fallen ChampionRare spawn with hard melee pressure; let the tank establish threat.
IronspineRare skeletal boss; control the surrounding area before pulling.
Azshir the SleeplessRare caster; interrupt and avoid combining him with graveyard patrols.

Notable reasons to run it

  • Ironspine's Eye — Ironspine
  • Ironspine's Fist — Ironspine
  • Blighted Leggings — Azshir the Sleepless
  • Ghostshard Talisman — Fallen Champion
  • Orb of the Forgotten Seer — Bloodmage Thalnos
  • Mantle of Woe / Vorrel's Boots — Vorrel's Revenge rewards

Loot tables are broad and drop chances vary. Treat this as a target shortlist, not a promise that every item is best for every spec or phase.

Role checklist

Tank

Own the route

Mark dangerous targets, use line-of-sight, watch patrols and pause before scripted events. State when a pull depends on crowd control.

Healer

Plan the recovery

Drink before events, call for dispels and tell the group when mana is not ready. Do not let an impatient pull conceal the real cause of a wipe.

Damage

Control beats padding

Interrupt, dispel, protect the healer and respect marked crowd control. A dead dangerous caster improves the run more than area damage on harmless targets.

Common wipe and wasted-time risks

  • Assuming a rare boss will be present.
  • Running through crypt rooms and collecting casters behind the group.
  • Forgetting to accept Vorrel's Revenge before leaving.
  • Joining at too low a level because the wing is short.
  • Turning a quick Graveyard run into an unannounced four-wing marathon.
