Ragefire Chasm

Recommended levels, location and preparation for an ordinary Ragefire Chasm group—not a boosted carry.

The short recommendation

RFC is the cleanest first dungeon for Horde players: a short linear run with no key and forgiving mechanics. Collect the Orgrimmar, Thunder Bluff and Undercity quests before entering; Alliance has no normal quest package and must cross Orgrimmar to reach it.

Choose the run before inviting

Standard clear

Trogg section → Oggleflint → Taragaman → Searing Blade cultists → Jergosh and Bazzalan.

Quest sweep

Kill counts complete naturally, but the Lost Satchel interaction and cultist books require attention.

First-tank run

Mark one target, pull back from lava edges and practise line-of-sight on casters.

Before travelling

  1. Collect every Horde quest before entering; their pickups are spread across three capitals.
  2. Bring interrupts for Searing Blade casters and enough bag room for the two quest books.
  3. Speak to Maur after Oggleflint for the satchel quest stage.
Version warning: official Classic Era only. Turtle WoW, seasonal and later-expansion layouts are excluded.

Quest pickup checklist

These are the key Classic Era quests to check before travelling. “Both” means the quest is available to both factions—not that reaching the dungeon is equally convenient.

Boss and event warnings

EncounterWhat the group must know
OggleflintControl his nearby troggs first and speak to Maur after the fight.
Taragaman the HungererFace him away and avoid standing in fire damage.
Jergosh the InvokerInterrupt casts and kill nearby cultists before the boss.
BazzalanClear the ledge and avoid pulling Jergosh’s area simultaneously.

Notable reasons to run it

  • Robe of Evocation — Jergosh
  • Cursed Felblade — Bazzalan
  • Chanting Blade — Taragaman
  • Orgrimmar weapon choice — Hidden Enemies chain

Drop chances vary and rare items are targets, not promises. Compare upgrades for your actual class and level.

Role checklist

Tank

Control the route

Mark dangerous targets, use line-of-sight and pause before events. Protect the healer before chasing damage.

Healer

Call your mana

Drink before scripted waves, prioritise dispels and stop impatient pulls while resources are low.

Damage

Interrupt and control

Respect marked targets, stop dangerous casts and prevent runners from collecting another pack.

Common wipe and wasted-time risks

  • Skipping distant capital quests because the dungeon is short.
  • Standing near lava or ledges while learning movement.
  • Letting casters remain at range instead of line-of-sight pulling.
  • Leaving before speaking to Maur.
