The short recommendation
BFD begins through an underwater cave and becomes a long temple route ending at Aku’mai. Collect faction quests before the trip, keep the group together through water sections and do not light the final Kelris braziers until everyone is ready for the waves they trigger.
Choose the run before inviting
Full temple
Ghamoo-ra → Lady Sarevess → Gelihast → Lorgus Jett → Kelris → Aku’mai, with optional Baron Aquanis.
Twilight Lord event
After Kelris, lighting four braziers releases enemy waves; light them one at a time.
Faction objectives
Quest pickups are split between Darnassus/Auberdine and Zoram’gar/Thunder Bluff; prepare before Ashenvale.
Before travelling
- Collect quests before travelling; several chains do not begin at the entrance.
- Bring underwater breathing support if available, though careful groups can manage normally.
- Carry interrupts for Twilight casters and poison cleansing for later encounters.
- Agree who interacts with braziers after Kelris.
Quest pickup checklist
These are the key Classic Era quests to check before travelling. “Both” means the quest is available to both factions—not that reaching the dungeon is equally convenient.
| Quest | Faction | Pickup | Prerequisite / note |
|---|---|---|---|
| In Search of Thaelrid | Alliance | Dawnwatcher Shaedlass, Darnassus | None |
| Researching the Corruption | Alliance | Gershala Nightwhisper, Auberdine | Optional lead-in |
| Knowledge in the Deeps | Alliance | Gerrig Bonegrip, Ironforge | Optional lead-in |
| Twilight Falls | Alliance | Argent Guard Manados, Darnassus | None |
| The Essence of Aku'Mai | Horde | Je'neu Sancrea, Zoram Strand | Optional lead-in |

Boss and event warnings
| Encounter | What the group must know |
|---|---|
| Ghamoo-ra | Break through his defence and manage area damage without pulling the beach. |
| Lady Sarevess | Interrupt Frostbolt and control her add. |
| Gelihast | Clear murloc packs and avoid chain pulls around the water. |
| Twilight Lord Kelris | Interrupt Sleep and shadow casts; clear the chamber before braziers. |
| Braziers | Each activation releases a wave. Recover fully and activate one at a time. |
| Aku’mai | Manage poison stacks, face the hydra safely and avoid using cleansing mechanics blindly. |
Notable reasons to run it
- Strike of the Hydra — Aku’mai
- Rod of the Sleepwalker — quest reward
- Gravestone Scepter — quest reward
- Outlaw Sabre — Baron Aquanis quest
- Ghamoo-ra’s Bind / Shell pieces — Ghamoo-ra
- Girdle of the Blindwatcher — Kelris
Drop chances vary and rare items are targets, not promises. Compare upgrades for your actual class and level.
Role checklist
Control the route
Mark dangerous targets, use line-of-sight and pause before events. Protect the healer before chasing damage.
Call your mana
Drink before scripted waves, prioritise dispels and stop impatient pulls while resources are low.
Interrupt and control
Respect marked targets, stop dangerous casts and prevent runners from collecting another pack.
Common wipe and wasted-time risks
- Separating in the underwater entrance.
- Lighting multiple Kelris braziers simultaneously.
- Fighting on narrow ledges with uncontrolled knockbacks or pets.
- Arriving without faction quest chains.
